 The flow membrane filtering module MFM-142 with tangential-radial fluid motion is designed for performing tangential micro- and ultrafiltration processes of low productivity. IMF can be used at medical, pharmaceutical, biotechnological, sanitary-epidemiological areas for virological water monitoring and other similar tasks, as well as for the production of unique products in small quantities.

 

Membrane module is used for HYPERLINK filtration of water in order to concentrate viral particles. The obtained water samples are filtered through a membrane filter MMPA + -142. The concentrated viruses elute from the surface of the filter and are identified in accordance with the established method.

Module construction

The special patented design of the device provides fluid movement above the membrane along concentric channels, connected together by flowing radial channels. The flow of fluid changes the direction of motion many times, and in one flow channel it is divided into two flows, and in the following two flows are combined into one. Such a liquid flow structure makes it possible to intensify the process of mass transfer in the boundary layer of the membrane and to have a minimum thickness of the sediment on the surface of the membrane. The flow of liquid in the channels approaches the displacement regime.

Membrane filtering module MFM-0142  was tested and recommended by the Research Institute of Environmental Engineering. Sysina RAMS for the sanitary-virological studies of water in laboratories of NII and SES according to MUK 4.3.2029-05 "Methodological instructions for sanitary-virological control of water objects of the environment" and for purification of drinking water.

 

 

Concentration of viruses from various water bodies

 

Membrane filtering module MFM-0142 with  membranes of the brand MMPA + tested and recommended by the Research Institute of Environmental Engineering. Sysina RAMS for the sanitary-virological studies of water in laboratories of NII and SES according to MUK 4.3.2029-05 "Methodological instructions for sanitary-virological control of water objects of the environment" and for purification of drinking water.

 

 

Scheme for the concentration of viruses using a compressor and a pressure vessel

 

The plant for virological analysis consists of a membrane module MFM-0142 with a membrane MMPA +, HYPERLINK "http://technofilter.ru/prod/filtry_i_oborudovanie_dlya_laboratornoj_filtracii/napornye_emkosti/" a pressure head for 10 liters and a compressor. The test water is poured into a pressure vessel, the cap of which is carefully closed and the compressor is turned on. With the help of a compressor, a pressure of 1.0-1.5 Bar is created in the pressure vessel. During filtration, the filtrate enters the drain, and the virus concentrate remains on the membrane of the module.

When filtering significant volumes of water under investigation, a developed scheme with a peristaltic pump is proposed. The water from the consuming tank is fed by the peristaltic pump to the membrane module MFM-0142. The filtrate after the module enters the filtrate collection, and the concentrate remains on the membrane. When filtering heavily soiled water, the unit is equipped with  capsule prefilter.

 


The stage of elution of viruses

Elution of viruses from the membrane is carried out without disassembling the module (in closed mode), by forcing the eluent into three 20 ml receptacles with two disposable syringes. Syringes, one of which contains the eluent, is connected to the docking devices on the water line and on the filtrate outlet line. All connecting hoses are equipped with quick-release couplings.
